Cookie policy for the Generalitat de Catalunya portals
The Generalitat de Catalunya websites use cookies to function. Browsing these websites with cookies enabled in your browser implies you accept the use of, as a minimum, the cookies required by current legislation.
According to European regulations, users must be informed of essential cookies, and asked to accept or reject cookies used for preferences and statistics.
There are three types of cookies on the Generalitat websites, structured according to whether they are:
- essential

- third-party

-
Law 34/2002

on services of the information society and electronic commerce (LSSI).
What are they?
Cookies are small text files that websites install on the user’s computer or mobile device.
- First-party cookies are generated by the website you are visiting which can only be read by this website. A website may also use external services, which generate their own cookies: third-party cookies.
- Persistent cookies are stored on your computer and not automatically deleted when you exit your browser (unlike session cookies, which are deleted when you exit your browser).
Each time you visit a Generalitat website, you will be asked to accept or reject cookies.
Their purpose is to remember your preferences (user name, language, etc.) for a given period of time. This means you won’t have to enter them again when you browse our pages during the same visit.
Cookies may also be used to produce anonymised statistics about the browsing experience on our websites.
How do we use cookies?
For the most part, Generalitat de Catalunya websites use “first-party cookies”, generated and controlled by the Generalitat, and not by external organisations.
However, to view some of our pages you will need to accept cookies from external organisations.
The two essential cookies we use allow us to:
- Stores visitors’ preferences.
- Keep our websites up and running.
Visitors’ preferences
We generate them ourselves and no one else can read them. They register the following:
- Whether the visitor has accepted (or rejected) the site’s cookie policy.
- Whether you have already responded to the pop-up (so that you are not asked to do so again).
Functionality cookies
Some cookies are necessary for certain web pages to work. Hence they do not require the user’s consent. We refer, in particular, to the following:
- Authentication cookies.

The data is not shared with third parties or used for any other purpose. The anonymous statistics might be shared with contractors working on communication projects in a contractual agreement with the Generalitat de Catalunya.
However, as a user you are free to reject them, either on the cookie banner that appears on the first page you visit, or in the edit section at the bottom left of each website.
