What do you need to know?
Any persons or private entities that wish to carry out public exhibitions or auctions of jewellery, silverware, antiques or works of art in premises or establishments that are not usually dedicated to such activities are required to provide prior notification of their intention to the following institutions:
- The Directorate-General for Security Administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of Catalonia, when such events are to be held in the Barcelona area.
- The relevant Territorial Service of the Ministry of Home Affairs when such events are to be held in other regions of Catalonia.
Only private individuals may follow this procedure in person.
Companies, entities and other collectives must complete the procedure online. Documentation provided through other channels will not be considered or computed for filing date purposes.
Persons or private entities organising occasional public exhibitions or auctions.
The notification must be presented with prior notice that may not under any circumstances be less than 15 working days (not including weekends) before the date foreseen for the holding of the exhibition or auction.
No fees are levied for this procedure.
Once the notification has been received, the Directorate-General for Security Administration or the relevant Territorial Service of the Ministry of Home Affairs will transmit it to the “Mossos d’Esquadra” – Police of the Government of Catalonia so that the latter can inspect the characteristics of the premises concerned in relation to the objects to be exhibited or auctioned and can issue a report in relation to any measures of security and surveillance that may need to be adopted, if required.

Receive a reply from the Administration
The head of the Directorate-General for Security Administration or of the relevant Territorial Service of the Ministry of Home Affairs may order the adoption of any security and surveillance measures [...]
The head of the Directorate-General for Security Administration or of the relevant Territorial Service of the Ministry of Home Affairs may order the adoption of any security and surveillance measures that they may consider appropriate, by means of an administrative decision prior to the holding of the exhibition or auction concerned.
Their decision must be transmitted to the person or organisation holding the exhibition or auction concerned so that they may adopt the security and surveillance measures required by the said decision.
Non-compliance with the measures provided for in the said decision may lead to the initiation of appropriate disciplinary proceedings and the adoption of precautionary measures, if required.
How will you receive the reply?
Self-employed persons, professionals, businesses and other collectives will receive a digital notification. You can access the content through the e-NOTUM service.
If you are a private individual, you may choose to receive the reply to this application through the electronic e-NOTUM system or by conventional post. Remember that, by default, the form indicates transmission by the electronic system. If you wish to receive the reply by conventional post, you will need to mark this box on the form.
