What do you need to know?
The Catalan Government is required to trace and where possible recover and identify people who went missing during the fighting, in captivity or by force during the Spanish Civil War and Franco’s dictatorship and whose whereabouts are unknown.
Anyone interested should register in the Missing Persons Register, an administrative register containing the details of people who went missing in the circumstances mentioned above and the details of the people or organisations asking for them to be found.
People registered in the Missing Persons Register are also eligible for the Genetic Identification Programme
Any person (with a family relationship with the missing person) or legal entity (town council or historical research organisation) looking to get information about a person who went missing during the Spanish Civil War or Franco’s dictatorship.
This procedure can be requested at any time.
There are no fees for this procedure.

The Directorate General for Democratic Memory will send the applicant family member or organisation an information letter specifying the data compiled accompanied by a copy of any documents found in the search.
