What do you need to know?
This license authorizes recreational (non-commercial) fishing in inland waters and in surface marine waters, either from the shore or from a vessel, using any gear permitted for this type of fishing.
There are several categories of recreational surface fishing licenses:
- R5: one-day tourist recreational fishing license.
- R6: two-day tourist recreational fishing license.
- R0: fifteen-day tourist recreational fishing license.
- R1: one-year recreational fishing licesnse.
- R2: two-year recreational fishing licesnse.
- R3: three-year recreational fishing licesnse.
- R4: four-year recreational fishing licesnse.
- M1: one-year catch and reelease recreational fishing license.
- M2: two-year catch and reelease recreational fishing license.
- M3: three-year catch and reelease recreational fishing license.
- M4: four-year catch and reelease recreational fishing license.
- RM: minor recreational fishing license. Free for individuals under 18 years of age. Valid for four years.
- RJ: recreational fishing license for people over 65. Free and valid for four years.
- RD: recreational fishing license for discabled people. It is valid for four years and free for people who provide documentary evidence.
Applications to be processed in person in the city of Barcelona will be handled at the Central Services of the Departament of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, Gran Via, 612-614.

Validity starts as the tax is paid, except the licenses R5 and R6, for which you can choose the effective date 15 days later.
Documentation to attach to the application
- Those under 18 must present authorization from the father/mother/legal guardian to get the license. Licences R5, R6, R0, R1, R2, R3, R4, M1, M2, M3 and M4 expire at the end of their term of validity, or at 65 years old.
- License RD, for disabled people, has a term of validity of 4 years. It is free of charg for people who can prove the condition of permanent disability.

- Applicants may not be prohibited from practising recreational fishing.
- Fines for offenses specified in Law 22/2009 of 23 December on sustainable fishing in inland waters, the Law 2/2010 of 18 February fishing and Maritime and Law 3/2001 of 26 March, sea fishing in the state, must be paid.

The license is free for those under the age of 18, people over the age of 65 and people who provide documentary evidence that they are in one of the following situations:
Having a disability equal to or greater than 33% recognized by resolution or certificate issued by the Institute for the Elderly and Social Services (Imserso) or the competent body of the corresponding autonomous community. In Catalonia, the competent body is the Secretariat for Social Inclusion and Promotion of Personal Autonomy.
Having the status of pensioner due to permanent total, absolute or major disability recognized by resolution of the National Institute of Social Security.
Be at least 65 years old and be a beneficiary of a retirement pension or retirement due to permanent incapacity for service or uselessness, recognized by resolution of the Ministry of Economy and Finance or the Ministry of Defense.
This license is valid in the sea waters of Spain and in the inland waters of Catalonia, always accompanied by the DNI/NIE/Passport.

As the tax is paid by credit card, the license is available at the link Payment, consultation or reprinting, Step 2.
For the taxes RM and RD, free of charge, after receiving an e-mail notification, the license will be available at the link Payment, consultation or reprinting, Step 2.
- RM: recreational license for minors. No fees.
- RD: recreational license for disabled people. No fees for people who prove they are in any of the disability situations described in the Fees section.
