What do you need to know?
Security companies, with registered office in Catalonia and scope of action limited to this territory, that wish to carry out the provision of services corresponding to the private security activities included in Article 5.1 of Law 5/2014, of 4 April, on private security, except for private investigation, must obtain prior administrative authorisation and be registered in the corresponding registry of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
These companies must apply to the Directorate General of Security Administration for the corresponding authorisation in the following circumstances:
- When it has a modification in its characteristics that could lead to its cancellation in the Private Security Register of Catalonia.
- When it ceases its activity, it must communicate this circumstance and request the cancellation of its registration in the Private Security Register of Catalonia and the return of the guarantee deposited.
- When it wishes to open, modify or cancel a branch with registered office in Catalonia and scope of action limited to this territory.
Resolutions issued by the Director General of the Security Administration concerning the authorisation, modification or cancellation of private security companies that do not exhaust the administrative process, may be challenged on appeal before the Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs. This must take place within a period of one month from the day following the date of notification of the resolution being challenged.
It should be taken into account that if it is a company that, with regard to the aforementioned private security activities, wants to dedicate itself exclusively to the installation and maintenance of security apparatus, devices and systems connected to alarm centres or control or video surveillance centres, it is necessary to apply via the procedure Opening of companies for the installation and maintenance of security apparatus, equipment, devices and systems. This procedure can only be done online.
Any individual or legal entity wishing to set up as a private security company, with registered office and scope of action limited to Catalonia.

Once the application has been received, the Directorate General of Security Administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs will verify and proceed to cancel the security company in the Private Security Register of Catalonia.

Instructions for filling in the form
- The system will validate the data and check those that are mandatory. If errors are detected in the data entered or mandatory data are missing, the system will warn you with an error message.
- Once the process and data have been validated, the system will generate a receipt that you must download (containing, among other data, the registration number and the date and time of submission), which certifies that the document has been correctly registered in the system.
- The form contains some mandatory annexes to be completed and processed together with the application form.
- It is not necessary to sign the form, but you must identify yourself when submitting the form with idCAT Mobile or the digital certificate of the individual, legal entity and/or related person.

If you are unable to complete the procedure due to a system failure, please try again later.
- If the incident persists more than 24 hours, you can contact the Ministry of Home Affairs through the Generic request with electronic signature. To do so, in the section "On va adreçada" (To whom is it addressed) select "Departament d'Interior" (Ministry of Home Affairs), topic "Emergències i seguretat" (Security Emergency), subtopic "Seguretat privada" (Private security).
- If, however, the incident is also affecting the Generic Request, you can send us the communication by means of a query, complaint or suggestion (CQS) to the contact mailbox of the Home Affairs website.
- Alternatively, if the incident persists and you cannot wait to complete the procedure, you can use the generic request form that you will find on the website or the electronic office of your city council (or any other Public Administration). In this case, remember that the calculation of deadlines may vary and that you will have to wait a few days to be able to follow up the procedure from your “Company Channel Private Area".

In the days following the submission of the application, you will receive, through the communication channel you indicated in the application form, a payment letter to pay the fee electronically via the CaixaBank website or, in person, at the "Servicaixa" ATM network, by credit or debit card.
Until the unit responsible for processing your application has proof of payment of the corresponding fee, it will not begin processing your file. If you do not pay the fee within the established period, you will be considered to have withdrawn.

Receiving the Administration's response

You will receive a resolution to cancel the company from the Private Security Register of Catalonia and, if applicable, the deposited guarantee will be returned.

You will receive an e-mail with the link to the notification. You can access it through the private area of the Company Channel.
When will I receive the response?
Within a maximum period of 2 months from the submission of the application.
If you do not receive a response within this period, you may consider that we have rejected your request.
Can I file an appeal?
You may file an appeal within 1 month from the day after you received the notification, through the "Filing an appeal" modality of this procedure.
