What do you need to know?
Security companies, with registered office in Catalonia and scope of action limited to this territory, that wish to carry out the provision of services corresponding to the private security activities included in Article 5.1 of Law 5/2014, of 4 April, on private security, except for private investigation, must obtain prior administrative authorisation and be registered in the corresponding registry of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
These companies must apply to the Directorate General of Security Administration for the corresponding authorisation in the following circumstances:
- When it has a modification in its characteristics that could lead to its cancellation in the Private Security Register of Catalonia.
- When it ceases its activity, it must communicate this circumstance and request the cancellation of its registration in the Private Security Register of Catalonia and the return of the guarantee deposited.
- When it wishes to open, modify or cancel a branch with registered office in Catalonia and scope of action limited to this territory.
Resolutions issued by the Director General of the Security Administration concerning the authorisation, modification or cancellation of private security companies that do not exhaust the administrative process, may be challenged on appeal before the Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs. This must take place within a period of one month from the day following the date of notification of the resolution being challenged.
It should be taken into account that if it is a company that, with regard to the aforementioned private security activities, wants to dedicate itself exclusively to the installation and maintenance of security apparatus, devices and systems connected to alarm centres or control or video surveillance centres, it is necessary to apply via the procedure Opening of companies for the installation and maintenance of security apparatus, equipment, devices and systems. This procedure can only be done online.
Any individual or legal entity wishing to set up as a private security company, with registered office and scope of action limited to Catalonia.
Any time the company decides to open, modify or close a branch in Catalonia.
It is necessary to attach to the application form:
- Inventory of the branch's material resources
- Document certifying the title by virtue of which the building(s) destined for the branch is/are at the disposal of the company
- List of the branch's personnel, with their position, category and identity card number
- Certificate of security measures, in accordance with articles 5 and 6 of Order INT/314/2011, of 1 February, on private security companies (BOE No. 42, of 18.02.2011)
Registration of a branch has a fee of € 182.55
In order to obtain the authorisation to modify the registration of the security company, it is necessary to comply with the legal and technical requirements that the private security regulations demand for each of the private security activities and services that the company intends to carry out.
Once the application has been received, in relation to changes in the registered office and/or expansion of activities, the Directorate General of Security Administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs will send it to the Police of the Generalitat ─ Mossos d'Esquadra so that it can check the suitability of the security measures established in the regulations and issue a report of conformity or not.
If the company provides services in which they are required to have as a security measure an armoury to deposit weapons and ammunition, the Directorate General of Security Administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs will request the Civil Guard to inspect and issue the corresponding report.
When it is a question of modifying the uniform, a specific garment or the company logo, the Police of the Generalitat - Mossos d'Esquadra will issue a report on the suitability of the request.

Until the unit responsible for processing your application has proof of payment of the corresponding fee, it will not begin processing your file. If you do not pay the fee within the established period, you will be considered to have withdrawn.
