There are two types of support for storing certificates (software and hardware). The desired level of security will determine which type is preferred.
- Computer file: the only physical support for this computer-readable file is the computer or the server on which it is installed.
- Digital smart card certificate: the certificate is stored on a card.
- Cryptographic USB tokens.
