The use of seat belts and other restraining devices, correctly fastened, is compulsory on both urban and inter-urban roads, for the driver and the passengers. The following limitations should, however, be borne in mind:
Front seats
- Children under 12 years old: Children under 12 years old may only travel in these seats if they use officially approved safety devices.
- Children whose height is at least 135 centimetres may use adult seat belts.
Rear seats
- Passengers whose height is less than 135 cm: Safety devices suitable for their height and weight.
- Passengers between 135 cm and 150 cm tall must use safety devices suitable for their height and weight or a seat belt.
As an exception:
Children can sit in the front passenger seat, provided they use the correct child restraint system (CRS), in the following circumstances:
- When the vehicle has no back seats.
- When all the back seats are already occupied by children of 135 cm or less in height.
- When it is impossible to install all the child restraint systems in the back seats. If the vehicle has a front airbag, a rear-facing child restraint system can only be used in the front passenger seat if the airbag is disabled.
