Both activities require special procedures in order to be compatible with leisure and the protection of the environment:
- To go fishing, you must request a surface water recreational fishing licence authorising you to fish in the sea and in no-kill zones of inland waters. Furthermore, to fish in controlled areas, you must also request a controlled area fishing permit for the particular area where you want to go. At sea, you may also get a recreational group fishing licence so that a boat owner and his or her companions may fish. For recreational underwater sea fishing, you must apply for an underwater fishing licence. Underwater fishing in inland waters is prohibited.
- To go hunting, you must apply for a hunting licence. Together with permission from the owner of the land, this only permits hunting on private hunting grounds. For national hunting reserves or areas with controlled hunting, you must apply for the permit to hunt in national hunting reserves in Catalonia.
Specific authorisations are required for the use of ferrets and lures in the Terres de l’Ebre. Exceptional authorisation is also required for culling, though notification may be sufficient.
