Technological capabilities
i2CAT promotes innovation with advanced technologies:
- 5G, 6G and satellite communications: Cellular and satellite access networks, Intelligent Sensing, and assets such as radio access controllers, satellite network simulators, 5G positioning with drones, and satellite constellation planners.
- Internet of things (IoT): Connectivity with NB-IoT, environmental sensors and energy saving. Positioning with technologies such as UWB, GNSS, RTK and 5G, and vehicular communications kits (V2X).
- Smart networks: Virtualization, automation, slicing and cloud/edge orchestration, with patents for Wi-Fi-optimized streaming.
- Distributed AI and data space management: Expertise in frameworks such as Gaia-X and IDS, advanced security protocols, multi-agent AI and distributed training.
- Cybersecurity and blockchain: Threat detection and prevention systems, and development of smart contracts.
- Immersive technologies: Coding and streaming for VR/AR/MR, volumetric capture, point cloud encoding and multi-source synchronization.

i2CAT has an experimental telecommunications network called 6GEN. This network distributed throughout the territory has scientific-technical equipment for applied research in terrestrial networks (5G, 6G), satellite networks (satellite-embedded lab), vehicular networks, distributed AI and security.
