The main research areas and goals of the agent’s researchers focus on the fields of chemicals and biotechnology.
- EQBA (Electrochemistry and Bioanalysis Group): Analytical, spectrometric, chromatographic, electrochemical and optical techniques. It develops sensors and studies nanostructured materials and contaminants in environmental, pharmaceutical, and food matrices.
- CRISOL (Chemical Reactions for Innovative Solutions): Innovative chemical tools for medicinal, process, and materials chemistry. It uses catalysis, light, and electricity to form chemical bonds
- GQF (Pharmaceutical Chemistry Group): Pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulation, applied biology, and API production. It applies advanced manufacturing technologies to obtain more efficient and cleaner processes.
- AppLightChem (Applied Photobiological Chemistry): Biomedical and photonic applications. It develops technologies for solar photoprotection, cancer photochemotherapy, photoantimicrobial therapies, and fluorescence imaging diagnostics.
- GQBB (Biochemistry and Biotechnology Group): Identification and analysis of proteins and enzymes, their use as therapeutic targets, and applications in biocatalysis and biotechnology in microorganisms.

We should highlight the Center for the Transfer of Integrative Processes and Technologies (CTPTI), an infrastructure devoted to advanced research and technology transfer that includes a Bioprocess Pilot Plant, the Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology Unit, and the Continuous Flow Chemistry Unit.
The agent also has 1,500 square meters of IQS laboratories, including the following: IQS-SCIEX Demo Lab, chromatography lab, metal analysis laboratory, electrochemistry laboratory, thermal analysis laboratory, IQS-JEOL NMR Platform, photochemistry laboratory and biochemistry laboratory.
