• The United States adjusts imports of processed critical minerals and their derivatives (Opens in new window)

  

  In a White House proclamation on January 14, it was announced that the Department of Commerce has concluded that the importation of critical processed minerals and their derivatives (PCMDPs), such as rare earth magnets, battery metals, or advanced materials, by volume and circumstance, threatens national security. Subsequently, the president is giving 180 days to negotiate agreements with trading partners to address these vulnerabilities, with the possibility of applying import restrictions, new tariffs, or minimum import prices.

• The United States adjusts imports of semiconductors, equipment, and their derivatives (Opens in new window)

  

  In a White House proclamation on January 14, it was announced that the Department of Commerce has concluded that the importation of semiconductors, semiconductor equipment, and their derivatives threatens national security because local production is insufficient to meet demand. Subsequently, the president has ordered trade negotiations to address these risks to national security, with a requirement to report back within 90 days. In addition, a 25% ad valorem tariff is imposed on imports of semiconductors and derivatives if they do not facilitate the expansion of local supply. However, there are exemptions, as well as provisions for broader measures.

• White House order to implement the US-Israel trade agreement on agricultural products (Opens in new window)

  

  A US-Israel free trade agreement has been in force since 1985; since 2004, the two countries have extended an agreement on agricultural products on an annual basis, pending a final agreement; on December 1 and 4, 2025, new chapters were added to the 2004 agreement. Finally, on December 29, the White House issued an order for its implementation, extending duty-free treatment for a number of Israeli agricultural products until December 31, 2026. Annexes I and II update tariff notes and product limits and introduce technical corrections and adjustments.

• The White House adjusts September proclamation on tariffs on wood and wood products (Opens in new window)

  

  In Proclamation 10976 of September 29 (effective October 14), Trump imposed additional tariffs to protect domestic wood. With the current adjustment, the increases or changes provided for in that proclamation are moved from January 1, 2026, to January 1, 2027. The Department of Commerce is also urged to continue negotiating with other countries to address the threat to their exports of wood, planks, and derivatives to the US. Finally, the tariff structure of the proclamation remains in effect.

• The United States announces an agreement in principle with the United Kingdom on drug prices (Opens in new window)

  

  In the agreement announced on December 1, the UK commits to increasing the net price it pays for new drugs by 25% and reducing the reimbursement/rebate rate under its current scheme to a maximum of 15% from 2026. In return, the US will exempt drugs, ingredients, and medical technology imported from the UK from tariffs (specifically under Section 232) and has committed not to initiate price investigations under Section 301 for the duration of the presidential term.

• White House order easing the scope of the additional 40% tariff on certain Brazilian exports (Opens in new window)

  

  The order modifies the scope of Brazilian products subject to a 40% tariff. Specifically, exports of certain agricultural products from Brazil will now be exempt from this additional 40% tariff; Annexes 1 and 2 of the same order list the specific products that are exempt. These changes are effective for products entering the US as of November 13.

• Trump announces new framework agreement with Saudi Arabia (Opens in new window)

  

  The agreement, announced on The White House website on November 18, predicts a large increase in Saudi investments in the United States; it also contemplates cooperation in nuclear energy, critical minerals, AI, defense, and security; future discussions on trade are contemplated, to reduce non-tariff barriers, for mutual recognition of standards, as well as to improve the framework to encourage investments on both sides.
