What do you need to know?
The FI-SDUR are grants for the recruitment of research staff in training who develop their doctorate within the framework of a department of the Catalan university system.
The purpose of these grants is to promote the research capacity of the university system, promoting and consolidating joint scientific strategies and policies between the selected departments and their universities, with the aim of developing research activities of international impact and strengthening the generation of frontier knowledge and its transfer.
Doctoral theses must necessarily be linked to the departments and structural research units listed in this document. Selected candidates must join as trainee research staff within their assigned department.

The provisional application by the candidate must be submitted through the "Tràmits portal".
Justification: the justification forms and documents are available on the pages of the pertinent calls:
People who are pursuing a PhD in one of the university departments receiving the FI-SDUR 2025 grants. The list of university departments and the number of grants available can be consulted in the terms and conditions.
Provisional application submission deadline (candidates): The deadline is May 14, 2025 at 2.00 p.m., Barcelona local time
Validation deadline (universities): The deadline starts on May 15 and ends on May 30, 2025 at 2.00 p.m., Barcelona local time.
The documentation to be attached to the provisional application is as follows:
- An annexed document that includes a brief curriculum vitae of the PhD candidate; a technical report with a summary of the education, training and research activities that are expected to be achieved during the three years of the grant, the objectives and expected scientific results, the applicability and transfer of knowledge foreseen and the possible social, economic and scientific impact of the research carried out. This attached document can be completed in Catalan, Spanish or English.
- A document certifying the awarding of the research project, or research or transfer agreement or contract where the thesis supervisor or director is a member. It will not be necessary to present this document if the project, contract or agreement has been granted or is formally linked to the university of affiliation. If this documentation is public, links to the corresponding website may be included.
- The academic transcripts of bachelor's degree or equivalent and master's degree studies stating the date of obtaining the degree and the average grade. If you are still taking your master's studies and have not completed them at the time of submitting your application, you will need to submit your updated academic records.
- Applicants who have completed all or part of their university studies at centers outside the Spanish university system must accompany the academic records of the calculated declarations of equivalence, in accordance with the provisions of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. If the academic file of the studies does not include the description of the evaluation system used by the corresponding university, it will also be necessary to attach, within this same section, the documentation that describes this evaluation system where it is stated, at least, the maximum and minimum qualification within the system and what is the minimum grade to pass.
- Where appropriate, a copy of the supporting documentation corresponding to the exceptional situations provided for in the regulatory bases.
- If applicable, proof of enrollment in a doctoral program.
Candidate requirements:
Applicants for predoctoral research personnel contracts must meet the following criteria:
a) Meet one of the following requirements:
- Have completed an undergraduate degree within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
- Have completed or to be currently completing a master's degree within the EHEA.
- Be enrolled in a Ph.D. program in the Catalan university system.
b) Candidates for the grants must have completed the studies that give access to the official doctoral studies between January 1, 2022, and the start date of the contract covered by this grant.
In the case of directly accessing the doctoral program from undergraduate or equivalent studies, without the need to complete master’s studies, these must be completed before the submission of the application.
Candidates who obtained after the 1st of January of 2022, the official degree of one of the specializations in health sciences may also apply.
The deadline for completion of studies for access to the doctorate exceptionally is extended from 1st of January of 2019, and the contract start date if, applicants have been in any of the exceptional situations foreseen:
- Have enjoyed a period of maternity or paternity leave.
- To have been in charge of children under six years of age or people with physical, mental or sensory disabilities who depend on the beneficiary and who require special dedication.
-Have suffered any serious illness or accident that requires major surgery intervention or treatment in a hospital and causes temporary disability for the person's usual occupation or activity for a minimum continuous period of 6 months. Minor and outpatient surgery treatments, as well as rehabilitation treatments carried out outside the hospital system, are excluded.
- Have suffered any of the situations provided for in the Law on comprehensive protection measures against gender violence.
-To have had the status of a refugee recognized according to the Geneva Convention of 1951.
c) Have a minimum average grade of academic record for bachelor's degree studies or equivalent qualification equal to or greater than 6.50 (scale from 0 to 10).
- In the case of studies completed abroad, the average grade of the academic record must be calculated in accordance with the provisions of the current resolutions of the Ministerio de Educación i Formación Profesional on equivalences of average grades https://universidades.sede.gob.es/pagina/index/directorio/Equivalencia_notas_medias/language/ca_ES
d) Each candidate can only be listed as such in one application.
e) At the time of starting the contract for which the grant is granted, candidates must have completed the studies leading to the doctoral program and be accepted or enrolled in a doctoral program at a university in the Catalan university system, in accordance with the academic year calendars and corresponding enrollment periods of the different universities and in accordance with the provisions of section 4.1.a) of the regulatory bases.
f) Not being in possession of a PhD.
At the time of submitting the application, candidates may not have enjoyed in previous calls any grant for the recruitment of PhD candidates FI, FI SDUR, FI-STEP. In addition, candidates cannot hold a doctoral degree and may not have enjoyed more than 6 months of any other predoctoral contract.
Thesis supervisors requirements
a) Have a statutory or employment link with the departments of the university of affiliation to the funding program. This link must sufficiently assurance of supervision and monitoring of the candidate's doctoral thesis.
This requirement is not met by part-time staff, staff on leave, visiting faculty and emeritus faculty.
b) Be principal investigators or members of a competitive research project, or a contract for research or knowledge transfer. In the case of contracts or agreements for research or knowledge transfer, each must have a minimum value of €24,000 (twenty-four thousand euros).
Those research projects, contracts or agreements must be in force or granted at the time of submitting the application. Projects with a favorable provisional resolution will be considered granted, provided that this is ratified with a final resolution.
Competitive research projects are not considered to be grants to support research groups recognized by the Government of Catalonia (SGR) or grants aimed at recruiting research staff.
c) Be part of a recognized research group within the framework of the round of grant funding to support the scientific activity of research groups in Catalonia (SGR-Cat 2021).
d) Each thesis supervisor can only appear in one application.
There are no taxes related to this procedure.
Duration:
- The grants last for three years.
- Contracts begin on the first day of the month.
Beneficiaries:
Catalan university system institutions.
Funding:
Covers salary, employer social security contributions, indemnity costs, Ph.D. tuition for up to four academic years, and a €3,000 complementary grant for research stays and training activities.

The deadline for submission of provisional applications marks the start of a period for applicant institutions to access the AGAUR grant management (BOGA) to confirm or reject the submitted by candidates.
The deadline for institutions to confirm or reject the submission of provisional applications for newly awarded grants will be announced when the call for applications is opened.
To submit the application, the legal representative must sign the confirmation document generated by BOGA and send it to AGAUR through the EACAT platform, or other valid electronic registration.

When is the response received?
When is the response received?
The maximum legal period to resolve is six months, counting from the publication of this call in the DOGC. Once this period has elapsed without express resolution, the application has elapsed so applicant can understand rejected his application. Request for administrative silence.
What response is received?
The resolution is published on the electronic board of the Administration of the Generalitat de Catalunya. To disseminate it more widely and for information purposes, the results of the resolution can be consulted on the websites of the AGAUR and the Secretariat for Universities and Research (SUR).
Can an appeal be filed?
The resolution exhausts the administrative procedure. Interested persons may lodge an appeal before the President of the Comissió Executiva d’Ajuts de Recerca, within one month from the day following its publication on the electronic board of the Administration of the Generalitat de Catalunya, or they may file a contentious-administrative appeal directly before the contentious-administrative court of Barcelona, within two months, counting from the day following its publication in the aforementioned dashboard.

The acceptance document, which also certifies this incorporation, must be submitted electronically within a maximum period of two months from the day following the start of the contract object of the grant.

The newly awarded contracts subject to this grant must begin no later than 1st of December of 2025. Exceptionally, people from outside the Community may join until 1st of June 2026 for reasons of permits for recruitment, certifying that they meet the requirements established in the regulatory bases and the call and that they have started the recruitment procedures corresponding before 1st of December 2025.
Candidates who are granted the aid by substitution must join it within the period established by the awarding resolution.
All contracts must begin on the first day of the month.

Universities must justify the grant of each researcher, within a maximum period of two months from the end of the grant, by means of the following documentation:

a) A technical report of the justified action signed by the contracted researcher and by the thesis supervisor.
b) An economic report justifying the cost of the contracts carried out based on the results obtained.
c) The beneficiary universities must also provide the necessary information for the elaboration of the indicators required by the ESF+
In addition, the beneficiary entities and the recipients of the aid must submit to the administrative and on-the-ground actions carried out by the AGAUR. Both verifications will be carried out by sampling.
