With studies in International Relations in Tokyo and with more than 10 years of experience in the Japanese private sector —particularly in the areas of internet services and semiconductors— Sergio Ortega heads the Catalonia Trade & Investment office in Tokyo. Thanks to his previous experience supporting Catalan companies' entry into the Japanese market, he contributes both to the growth of the Catalan economy and to strengthening its business presence in Japan.
The Catalonia Trade & Investment Office in Tokyo has a further seven consultants, all of whom are experts in both the internationalization of Catalan companies, that want to do business in Japan, and in attracting investment to Catalonia. Precisely for this reason, the International Office in Tokyo, which opened in 1988, was the Catalan Government’s first office abroad.
Since 2015, the Catalonia Trade & Investment Office in Tokyo has promoted over 300 projects. The most significant involve companies in the food and design industries. Many of these have participated in trade missions or have used its commercial services, such as the search for marketing channels, market research and prospection and the following up of contacts.
