ViCOROB is the research group in Computer Vision and Robotics at the University of Girona (UdG). Founded in 1993, ViCOROB has consolidated itself as a leading research group in this country and abroad in the robotics, intelligent systems and perception fields. The group's team is structured around three research laboratories, which have the SGR Consolidat seal: Research Group in Robotics and Underwater Vision ‐ CIRS - 2021SGR01351, Advanced Image Analysis- 2021SGR01196 and UdiGitalEdu: Creative Learning, STEAM and Social change -2021SGR01596.

Technological capabilities
Image analysis: segmentation, detection and characterization of objects using color, texture and shape information. Object recognition and classification systems, including medical images (mammography, magnetic resonance imaging, tomography and ultrasound).
Underwater robotics: design and development of autonomous marine vehicles (submarine and surface) and their sensory, actuation and software architectures for intelligent systems. Docking stations for charging and communication, 3D perception systems (laser scanners, multibeams), safe trajectory planning, 3D inspection and mapping. Positioning, mapping and SLAM algorithms, as well as autonomous manipulation with multi-arm robots and cooperative manipulation.
Underwater vision: development of systems for georeferenced maps of the seabed, photomosaics and 3D information. Immersive 360-degree video systems and real-time vision for robot navigation. Neural networks for underwater image analysis.

Relevant equipment
The group has the Research Center for Robotics and Underwater Vision (CIRS), a European leader, where autonomous underwater robots such as the Girona500, Girona1000 and Sparus II are developed.
The building, which houses research activities, has a water tank (18x10x5m), a hyperbaric chamber and experimental observation spaces, offering an ideal environment for testing.
It also has an adapted trailer and a 12-meter boat (Sextant II) for experiments at sea with underwater robots.
