The technological boost for major innovative and sustainable ideas

If you have a new high-risk tech product or service in mind, Business enterprise R&D nuclis are the tool you need to fulfill it. Through these grants you can receive up to 250,000 euros in non-returnable funds to develop a different project and tackle the challenges of the technology and green transformation.

Present times mean that companies cannot stop. Technologically developing new products or service, improving the use of waste or developing activities to mitigate the effects of climate change are essential to ensure companies remain competitive.

These are some of the goals of the new nuclis that are being introduced with four lines of aid to turn your most innovative and sustainable ideas into a reality: the R&D nuclis to promote technological projects, the Circular economy R&D Green nuclis in waste, the R&D Green nuclis in Climate change and the new Individual R&D nuclis.

Individual R&D nuclis

What do they offer?

Individual R&D nuclis are subsidies to encourage business research and development projects with the aim of helping companies to develop new products, processes and services with a high technological risk.

All the projects must have a minimum budget totaling 200,000 euros and they can be undertaken for a period of three years following the date of application. The subsidy can reach up to 40% of the project’s budget.

The 2023 call for Individual R&D Cores will open in the coming weeks.

This call is co-financed by the 2021-2027 ERDF Operational Program for Catalonia.

Requirements and application

The Individual R&D nuclis constitute aid geared towards Catalan SMEs wishing to develop new products, processes and services with a high technological risk. Aspects such as the project’s technological quality, the generation of employment and intellectual and industrial property will be assessed.

The general requirements for applying for the aid are as follows:

The beneficiaries of the aid must be small and medium-sized enterprises based in Catalonia.
The projects for this line of R&D nuclis must be developed individually and the participation of projects in partnership with other companies or entities will not be permitted.
The companies must have the technical capacity to carry out the R&D activity in Catalonia.
The companies must be at least two years old. You are advised to validate your financial viability by means of the Financial self-assessment.

Climate change R&D Green nuclis

What do they offer?

The climate change R&D nuclis help companies develop R&D projects to solve and improve the effects of the climate emergency.

The maximum subsidy for this line will be 250,000 euros for projects related to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions: the development of sustainable materials, improvements to the water cycle, advances in renewable energies or the implementation of initiatives in sustainable mobility, among others.

The grants are aimed at projects with a minimum budget of 120,000 euros,

This call is implemented along with the Oficina Catalana del Canvi climàtic (Catalan Climate Change Office - OCCC) to help increase investment in R&D into the climate emergency in Catalonia.

Aspects such as the technological quality of the project, collaboration among companies and players of the R&D ecosystem or the generation of employment are valued, among others.

What do they offer?

The Circular Economy Business R&D nuclis are the opportunity to develop new research and development projects related to waste in order to begin new processes in the company or improve existing ones using technological innovation.

These R&D nuclis are grants of up to 250,000 euros to develop projects in the production process of the applying company or to be implemented in another company.

The grants are addressed to companies individually or in cooperation with other local companies, international partners or TECNIO accredited agents. The minimum budget of the projects must be 120,000 euros.

This call is implemented along with the Agència de Residus de Catalunya (Waste Agency of Catalonia - ARC) to help increase investment in R&D into waste in Catalonia.

For cooperation projects, companies will have to participate with other local or international companies or with TECNIO accredited agents.
